$1,490

with Ms. Jen

Calendar Jun 17, 2022 at 9:45 am, runs for 34 weeks

$1490 (includes cost of Teambuilding Adventures, Leadership Training, Babysitters, CPR and First Aid Certification)

Is your teen looking for some adventure? Rock climbing, kayaking, snowboarding, zip lining, archery. Wilderness survival skills- fishing, shelter building, wood carving, fire building, animal tracking, identifying wild edibles. Leadership- First Aid and CPR certification, mentoring younger students, leading games, hikes, and guiding younger students to connect with the natural world.

All of these adventures, skills, and growth opportunities are combined in our Nature Mentorship Course. Mentors will grow in their own personal nature connection while bonding with fellow teen mentors and guiding younger students in our outdoor classrooms. Mentors will grow in physical and emotional endurance through a variety of teambuilding adventures throughout the year. Outdoor skills will be put to the test on an overnight survival trip.

The nature mentor class includes summer and winter training in leadership and wilderness skills, and Friday adventure outings once per month throughout the school year. During these student growth opportunities, teens will learn from one another and develop a community of leaders. They will apply these leadership skills in the outdoor classroom by attending class as a mentor for students in one of our younger grades either on Wednesdays or Thursdays throughout the year. Teens will lead small groups of students in games, on adventures, and act as role models for younger students.

Course Schedule:

  • Fall Mentor Training- 5 days
  • Fall Overnight Survival Skills Camp
  • Winter Mentor Training- 3 days
  • Friday Adventure Outings once per month
  • Commitment to one of the younger classes on Wednesdays or Thursdays throughout the school year to lead and mentor younger students.

With an emphasis on outdoor, imaginative play and exploration, students begin to show independence in the Redbuds class. Students feel safe in their beautiful forest classroom and slowly adventure farther along the trail as the year progresses. Every class follows a predictable routine. We begin each day with a soft start, where students are welcome to come anytime between 10:00-10:30 for free play in our outdoor classroom space. We then gather together for opening circle with song, stories, and snack. We like to play nature-connection games, expanding our senses and awareness of nature all around us. Then we go on our themed adventure or investigation, exploring along our nature loop. As students hike uneven terrain, climb, and balance on stones, they develop gross motor skills. Lunch includes more free play in our classroom that includes a mud kitchen, giant weaving loom, slackline, obstacle course, and ever-changing loose parts. Students come back together for nature journaling time. We close each class with story and song around the fire circle. Our day ends with a soft close, and parents are welcome to pick up anytime between 1:30 and 2:00. This allows flexibility for students to be outdoors for the amount of time that works best for their personal development, between 3-4 hours.

Fall: Sep 12-Nov 21 with Nov 28 as a make-up date

Spring: Apr 10-May 22 with May 29 as a make-up date

Classes encourage students to connect within themselves and to the earth, their peers and their parent. Emphasis is on imaginative free play, curiosity, and social awareness. We begin each class with a soft start, where families are welcome to join us for free play between 10:00-10:30. Our beautiful outdoor classroom space includes a mud kitchen, giant weaving loom, slackline, obstacle course, and ever-changing loose parts. Each class follows a similar rhythm: free play, opening circle with yoga, sensory awareness activities and music. Then we move into our adventure portion of the day, where students hike their special nature loop. We gather together for snack and story, more imaginative play, nature journaling, and closing circle around the fire. As students hike uneven terrain, climb, and balance on tones, they develop gross motor skills. Parents connect with other families of similar values and develop relationships that often extend outside of class time. Sharing discoveries and learning from one another develops our sense of community.

Babies are always welcome at no additional cost. This is a parent/child course- parents, guardians, or caretakers are expected to attend class with their child to learn and grow together.
